AAT samples are provided on a quarterly basis to organizations enrolled in the AAR program. The organization is sent one set of AAT samples for every 5 analysts enrolled in the AAR. Results of each round are evaluated and a report of performance is provided to each enrolled organization. The analyst has the opportunity to override his/her scores by participating in the retest round. The proficiency samples for the AAT program are generated and distributed by RTI International, with data analysis performed by the AIHA Registry Programs.

Who should participate in the AAT Program?

Any analyst enrolled in the AAR program must successfully participate in the AAT program.

A proficiency testing program provides objective evidence of an analyst's capability to produce data that is both accurate and repeatable. Participation in proficiency testing activities also provides invaluable feedback in the internal monitoring of your quality system and can help analyze the reliability of an organization's analytical protocols, personnel, and equipment.

Proficient performance is a requirement for recognition as an AAR Registered Analyst and inclusion on the AAR Directory of Registered Organizations and Analysts.

Who can participate in the AAT Program?

The AAT Program is the proficiency testing program for fiber-counting analysts who seek to be included on the Asbestos Analysts Registry. Only analysts enrolled in the AAR may participate in the AAT program. Participating organizations may have analysts that work in the laboratory or the field or both.

How does the AAT program work?

When an organization enrolls in the AAR Program their affiliated analysts are enrolled into the AAT program. Analysts may also be enrolled with an organization after the initial application submission.

Samples are shipped quarterly to the organization's AAT Contact. One sample set can be analyzed up to five analysts. Sample analysis must be performed using the current version of the NIOSH 7400 Method. Analytical procedures must be in compliance with the OSHA asbestos standard, 29 CFR 1910.1001. AAT data must be submitted to the AAT Data Dashboard by the deadline.

AAT Performance Results Reports are available 10 business days after the round closes. The reports display the proficiency results and status of each enrolled analyst.

Download the AAT Deadlines and Instructions document for more detailed information on the program.
